Bent County (below) was created February 11, 1870 from part of Las Animas County
Otero was established in 1889 from a portion of Bent Co (below). It is bounded on the North by Lincoln Co, the South by Las Animas County, the East by Bent County and Kiowa County, and the West by Pueblo County . On May 6, 1911, the Northern portion of Otero County was taken to create Crowley County (below)
